Dream Meaning of Hole

Dream Meaning of Hole

In Turkish dream tradition, a hole is rarely just an empty space. It stands for the hidden side of life—secrets that surface, obstacles that appear without warning, and words that, once spoken, can never be taken back. The meaning shifts a great deal depending on where the hole is and what you do with it.

A hole in the ground

Seeing an opening in the earth suggests a sudden difficulty or an unexpected trial. It may arrive in the middle of ordinary affairs, reminding you that not every path is solid beneath your feet. The dream nudges you to prepare for a rough stretch and to watch your step.

Entering a hole in a mountain

If you see a mountain being pierced and you go through that opening, you are about to learn a secret belonging to someone known for keeping their word. That person trusts you with something private. In other tellings, a hole in the earth serves the same purpose—an upcoming revelation of a hidden matter.

Taking something out of a hole

Pulling an object out of a hole means you will receive a gift or reward. The size or value of what you remove corresponds to the worth of the gift. It may also mean that after a stretch of trouble, a stroke of good fortune will come your way. Some interpreters add that this dream can announce a long journey in the near future.

A hole in your own body

When a hole opens in your flesh and blood flows from it, the dream warns of loss and damage. The harm may come from an event you did not foresee, and it will leave a mark. This is a caution to guard your health, finances, and relationships.

Drilling or making a hole

If you are the one making the hole, the dream often points to an inspection or an audit. Someone in authority may check your work, your household, or your affairs closely. In a more personal sense, drilling through a narrow or tight place means you will remain steady in your faith and principles. Drilling through a brick, however, is read as the opposite—a sign that your religious commitment may waver.

Drilling through hard materials or a wall

Breaking through something strong can mean you are pursuing a risky interest. Older interpreters saw this as harassing young unmarried women, or wandering a region to gather news and gossip. It can also suggest disorder in your household. If you drill into a house and enter it, the dream warns that the woman living there may be subjected to harm or disrespect.

Holes in walls

A single hole in a wall is good news; it tells of a positive message arriving. Rows of holes in a wall, on the other hand, indicate a change of residence. You may soon move to a different home. In old Ottoman symbolism, the air shafts built into walls for cooling were linked to the master's most trusted servant—anything happening to those shafts mirrored that servant's fortune. More broadly, any hole in a wall invites you to look for what is hidden behind the surface.

A small hole and a large animal

A well-known story from the tradition: a man dreamed of a huge cow emerging from a small hole, and he could not push it back. Imam Ali interpreted the hole as the mouth and the cow as speech. Once a word leaves your mouth, it cannot be returned. The dream is a reminder to think before you speak.

Holes in dreams are rarely permanent. They open, they are entered, they are filled, and they are left behind. As with secrets and words, what matters is not the opening itself, but what moves through it.
